  2. To provide for the religious, intellectual and social welfare of the Muslim community.

  3. To provide charitable and humanitarian help to the entire community, Muslims and non-Muslims.

  4. To reach out and present Islam through educational and cultural activities, which are consistent with the teachings and principles of Islam.

Our History

The Masjid AQSA-SALAM is home to the oldest Muslim community ever founded in New York and its surroundings. It was established in 1996 by immigrants from Côte d'Ivoire. It is the result of the merger of two mosques of Harlem, AQSA and SALAM.

For nearly two decades, this Mosque represented a veritable symbol that brought together all the Muslim communities, the vast majority of whom are of West African origin. Indeed, beyond a place of worship, this mosque served as a hub, a true community center that played a very important role in the development of Harlem in general and the neighborhood commonly called 'Little Africa' (Little Africa).

AQSA-SALAM is a unique house of worship where religious services are provided in English, French, Arabic and African languages (Mandingo…)

Since his establishment Masjid AQSA-SALAM has been providing educational, employment, and all-purpose guide to life in America to the growing African immigrants community. Congregants would come from all New York 5 boroughs and even New Jersey.

As the African immigrants’ community keeps growing and the Masjid was overflowing with worshipers, Masjid AQSA has proudly encouraged and led to the establishment of many other mosques in New York and the tri state area.

Furthermore, Masjid Aqsa has been playing a key role in the establishment and the activities of many organizations such as the Council of African Imams, the Harlem Islamic Leadership, the Health Clinic at Harlem Hospital Center set up to cater to the needs of Muslim immigrants from West Africa…

Masjid AQSA was located at 2136 Eight Avenue, between 116th Street and 115th Street before relocating in May 2014 at 23 East 115th Street.
